She wasn’t Maria

This is a fault of the script and the director’s attitude. First of all, I could have used more music instead of listening to most of it in the background. We see the audience standing and shouting “Bravo” to "Qui la voce" Except we didn’t hear "Qui la voce"; only a few bars and no coloratura. Callas had this reserved attitude during interviews etc. The interview she gave to John Ardoin, asking that the tapes not be played until she was dead, is the most heartbreaking thing you will ever hear in your life.

Just an opinion

She was unhappy, codependent, and never got over her relationship with Onassis. She was a very damaged woman. I didn’t really get much out of this movie. There were inaccuracies, but that’s to be expected from a script that has to experience life through a telescope. Maria Callas was a great artist and a deeply complex human being.
