I loved the concept and the possibility… but imagine West Side Story being performed by your family’s high school kids in the kitchen, intent on delivering a profound message that no one else in the story ever did – without all that annoying music. You only go if you have to. The direction, writing and acting are lacking, though most of the cinematography is beautiful and compelling. Viewers will certainly feel the hustle, bustle, pressure and stress of a busy New York restaurant kitchen. But at an hour and fifteen minutes into La Cocina, the most depressing thing is the realization that there are still sixty minutes to go.
