Based on a true story, this film had its world premiere at the Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis, IN, to a sold-out crowd on Saturday, October 8, 2022
The brilliant but emotionally reserved Caro Drake arrives at Oxford with the sole purpose of earning her doctorate, but through a turbulent friendship with a charming young man she begins to open up to mystery, vulnerability and love. Carolyn Weber, the author of the book on which the film is based, was in attendance, along with actress Rose Reid, who played Caro Drake in the film, and other members of the production.
And I have to say, this film is pretty good
Christmas Eve in My Hometown Written by Stanley William Zabka and Donald Upton Starring Eddie Fisher (1951 recording). I didn’t know anything about this film, I showed up, it had an introduction by the author of the book on which it is based, Carolyn Weber, and also by the producer.
She is a very religious person and her opinions and those of others make Carolyn really question her life, what she really wants and what she thinks of others
The introduction goes on to say it’s a romance film, which in a way it is, but it really gets into the life of the main character Carolyn, from being a child in America to her years in Oxford, England. Roes Reid is brilliant as Carolyn, who has difficulties with her studies, a strange love affair and if she is a religious person, after meeting Kent Weber, played with the right conviction by Ruairi O’Connor.
I give this 75/10 because I was surprised by Oxford
Oxford looks really beautiful, Ryan Whitaker’s direction is perfect, it captures the backdrop of Oxford, along with the cast which has star turns in Simon Callow, Jordan Alexandra, Emma Naomi, a very memorable Lourdes Faberes and the wonderful Phyllis Logan, who is quite changeable and starts off as very stiff, but is also a real driving force. But I don’t think I would want to study or work there.
