After being released from prison after 25 years, New York mob captain Dwight “The General” Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sylvester Stallone’s first leading role in a television series. The opening credits show various photographic and painted sights as well as Oklahoma landmarks inserted into the New York landscape: a statue of Sioux Indian chief “Touch the Clouds” wearing a war cap and bone collar (breastplate) inserted into the Brooklyn Bridge. The statue of the Golden Dipper that is glued to the Statue of Liberty.

The Western Gateway Arch on Route 66, which is inserted into one of the main “avenues” of Manhattan. In New York, in the borough of Manhattan, there are several numbered “avenues”. Seen on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode No. 45.7 (2022). I watched this out of curiosity, without much expectation, just surprised to see Stallone in a TV series.

There is a sense of tension in the scenes, it also feels quite realistic as far as the plot goes. I wouldn’t say it’s funny, but there are some funny scenes because Dwight (Stallone) is released from a 25-year prison sentence and he’s not fully integrated into the way the world works now; Therefore, I suspect that the sudden transition will present us with some interesting problems in the future. It’s a pretty clever script, but not in an overly funny way, which is a good sign. Sure, Stallone is featured a lot, but the rest of the cast seems pretty good too. The series literally feels like gangsters written for an early 90s movie were just thrown into 2022, resulting in a good mix of humor and violence.
If it continues like this, that’s great, if it gets better, that’s fantastic
I thought it was just going to be a throwaway series like some of Stallone’s recent movies that rely mostly on his name and performances, but Taylor Sheridan does a good job here and writes a script worthy of Stallone’s performances. I think it will be fun to watch macho Stallone build a criminal empire out of nothing in the middle of nowhere, Tulsa. I like how it has that western feel at times even though it’s still mob. I think the show might fly under the radar and cause a stir later when people ask how they didn’t notice it earlier because I haven’t seen that much advertising from Paramount. I didn’t have high expectations, but if the first episode is anything to go by, this could be really fun.
I will add a review once more episodes are released and update if anything changes drastically in the series
