I’m not usually a huge fan of these 4-part TV dramas that seem to be all the rage at the moment because they often veer into the absurd, but I decided to watch it because it was based on real events, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
Anna Maxwell Martin’s performance as the main character was exceptional, and despite being a ‘victim’, she gave the impression of someone who was extremely difficult to love and didn’t do much to help herself
Overall, it was a bit clunky, had to stretch over a long period of time, and the actions of some of the other supporting characters were a bit wooden, but that didn’t spoil the fun for me.
I think this was excellent television, and despite my negative opinion of Ballmer, Sweeney is an absolute monster here
It will be interesting to see a documentary starring the real Delia Ballmer to see if she will be as prickly and sharp-witted as portrayed in the dramatization – as she was even before her trial.
